No Adobe Apps for iPhone, Nuff Said

Written by Stephanie Stonecold on Saturday, April 24th, 2010

Yes, it’s final. Adobe Flash will not create apps for iPhone anymore. Mike Chambers, the project manager for Adobe Flash, said that the company will not invest more in flash applications for the iPhone. They will now focus its efforts on Google’s awesome mobile OS, the Android.

The company will still continue offering Creative Suite 5 for programmers who are interested in developing applications for iPhone.

The decision came after Apple changed the license agreement prohibiting developers creating applications for their multi-platform devices.

As of now, Adobe will not invest more in technology supported by Apple, according to our various sources.

Apple disapproved the establishment of multi-platform tools because it can damage the construction of a series of applications based on Titanium, MonoTouch and Flash CS5.

Apple is not interested in supporting technologies that enable applications to be easily built for multiple platforms and that the agreement had not been amended the iPhone would be easily compatible to several apps already created on the basis that the company is avoiding.

So are you still sticking with your iPhone or have switched to the bright side with the Androids?

I think Apple’s iPhone will still lead the smartphone supremacy even without Adobe Flash applications. But we can’t deny the fact that Google will do anything for world domination.

  1. I think you’re closed off to think that iPhone will still hold phone supremacy. It wont for long… The development and user community have both had enough of Apple’s racist bullshit and on this path the company will fall as a whole.

Those developers who don’t want to straighten up and fly right are welcome to go develop for Palm’s OS. They should then be eligible for food stamps and other welfare benefits. Developing for the iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad ecosystem is a PRIVILEGE, not a right.

FLASH IS DEAD – JOIN THE HTML5 REVOLUTION!

  3. Agree with James regarding HTML 5 v Flash, but completely disagree with the “Developing for the iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad ecosystem is a PRIVILEGE, not a right.” bull. Personally, I’m a fan of Android and foresee a future where Android based handsets, tablets and netbooks will dominate the market in a couple of years time.

‘Apple’s racist bullshit and on this path the company will fall as a whole’

Oh P-l-e-a-s-e. ‘Racist’ Come on, how is Apple’s choice to not support flash racist? We are talking software here, not human rights, get a grip.

Do some developers mind that flash is not supported, probably. However, the success of the iPhone platform being dependent on Flash is being overblown by a vocal minority of technogeeks and flash whiners. Does the ‘average’ guy on the street care about Flash support – I think not (90% of the mobile users don’t have flash 10x support today). Additionally, Flash brings annoying banner ads, poor battery performance and sluggish processor speeds. Also, Flash that is optimized for desktop use with a mouse often does not work as designed with touch interfaces. So when the total user experience is evaluated I think Flash is waging a war that it is ultimately going to use.

I have been trying sites with embedded HTML 5 for video display and it works really well (at least on my Beta 1 for iPhone OS 4. Flash is also not in the interest of Google as they cannot advertise through it. So with Apple and Google actively supporting HTML 5 and Microsoft coming to the table with Sliverlight. What’s Flash’s future exactly?

  5. I’ll never buy another Apple product because of what they are doing with not allowing to Flash on the iPhone or iPad. They are not supporting the Web or the people that use it. It is all about GREED.

I’ve owned two iPhones and my next phone will support Flash, so that means something other than iPhone. Dumb move on Apple’s front.

Flash will not be defeated by html 5 in fact flash will just assimilate it, plus by the time flash html 5 is even out (years down the line) flash will be so far ahead of the game it will be like comparing playstion 3 to super nintendo. Alot of Flash work for the most part can be open source also but I pay for it because updates for paid software and bug fixes usually happen alot faster than updates for open source. I think there is nothing wrong with paying for somethings and having others be totally open source.
In terms of 3d technology and integration with browsers, tablets, desktop computers, phones etc. html 5 can not be compared to anything flash has to offer or will offer.
I develop for major ad companies doing both html, css, javascript, DOM stuff and actionscript and unity3d (choice is c#), speaking for my self I love the code once and get spectacular results every where and almost on every device. Try coding any thing in css, javascript and find that browser issues are abundent this works in ie 5 -6 but not firefox or safari blah blah blah) that whole thing sucks in my opinion.
IMO Flash is a standard and will be the standard for some time still for cross platform, cross browser media presentations and applications.
In terms of apple computers if a company wants me to program for it using there development platforms fine, I think there can be room for adobe and apple. It means more work for me but there is a cost to be the boss.
If you think Apple or html 5 will kill adobe/flash take a look at what some of the worlds best visual designers, motion graphic artists and 3d developers are doing in flash and then think again.
